Hi all,

We are thinking of moving to Philadelphia. Being retired, we would like to live near a nice recreation center with some typical amenities, e.g. open basketball and tennis courts, table tennis (ping pong) table(s), racquetball courts, pickelball (popular among retired folk), etc. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Someone recommended the Cricket Club in Chestnut Hill, but it seemed far too exclusive for us. Thanks!

Yeah, The Cricket Club is a private country club; there was rumor that Ed Rendell (former Mayor and Governor) was denied membership many years ago. My brother used to work there and we would sneak on to play the last holes on the golf course haha.

But Philly has a pretty expansive Recreation/Parks Department with Rec centers scattered all over the city. Some have public pools, which will have "Adult Swim"-usually between 5-7pm, which is a pretty quiet time of day where you may even have the pool to yourself.

Tennis/Basketball courts are also all over the city-free to use with some other things like bocce available at others.
