Hello All

I'm looking for the best place for a single guy to move that is walkable with good nightlife / odds of meeting new people, dating, etc. Ideally a place where it isn't too awkward to go to bars or restaurants alone sometimes. Day activities would be cool too (hiking, biking, sports, etc.). Being reasonably close to Tinicum (for my job) is definitely an important consideration, but I'm willing to drive up to 40 or so minutes if it means a having better life. So far I really like Conshohocken the best (Does anyone else here live there and like it?). I don't want to move within the city limits because I absolutely refuse to pay the city Wage tax when I don't have to. I have a car and prefer to keep it, so I don't want to get gouged on insurance/parking, and also not a fan of the crime and all that's going downhill within the city in recent years. Anyone in a similar situation, or have any recommendations for me? I'm most likely looking to rent at this stage in my life and under 2200 per month would be best...

Media seems like the most obvious choice for your preferences as it is (arguably) the suburb with the most nightlife and it is pretty close to Tinicum. Has plenty of bars/restaurants and good access to outdoor activities. Conshy is a good choice but is a bit far from your work.

Other good options are Ardmore, Wayne, Havertown, West Chester, and Ambler but they will all regularly involve commutes that are longer than 40 minutes. The Philadelphia metro has a lot of traffic and it can be difficult getting from one section to the other.

You could also look in Wilmington DE, a neighborhod like trolley square might fit the bill. Not sure what the crime situation is like though.

Media hands down, busy/walkable downtown. Lots of biking trails (both road and MTB). Hard to find good deals since its so desirable.

We moved from there out of state last year and I regret it daily.

I am familiar with Conshy, although I never lived there. I think it has what you are looking for -- restaurants, neighborhood bars and the schuylkill river trail for hiking and biking. There are also boathouses for rowing. https://schuylkillriver.org/schuylki...out-the-trail/

There is a SEPTA train station for trips into center city and 30th street station.

For someone in your demographic, I suggest you look at a map of areas with a high concentration of equipment oriented fitness centers, bike shops, craft beer brewery, cafes, apartments, condos, etc. https://www.conshohockenbrewing.com/
the businesses that target mostly young single people. My husband belongs to an equipment only gym in Conshy and the member demographic is your age group.

There is a bike shop in Conshy along the schuykill river trail that has events to foster a spirit of community. https://thetricycleshop.com/

Conshy has a dense area of newish apartments and condos.

Amerisourcebergen recently established a worldwide headquarters in Conshy so there likely will be an on-going flow of employees relocating to the area potentially looking to meet new people.

I always see people, generally, young people who are out and about. I don't know about nightlife as I am never in the area late at night.

One more vote for Media.

Conshohocken did get an edge city grafted onto it, but its dining and nightlife remain small-townish. Media has a livelier downtown with more restaurants and bars as well as a performing arts center, something Conshy lacks.

Plus you have opportunities for hiking and other outdoor activities at nearby Ridley Creek State Park.

One more vote for Media. My hometown and one of my favorites places. I moved out of state years ago, but planning to move back and will be going back to Media. Great bar / restaurant scene, VERY walkable, on the trolley and train line, so easy car-free trip into the city when you want, and also has some really great parks.

Manayunk. I would say the wage tax is worth it when it comes to the convenience factor if you want to take advantage of all the city assets, including its incredibly large dating pool.

Plus you cannot beat all the outdoor recreation at your doorstep.

If you want to add up the costs, with the # of times you will need to uber/drive and park/SEPTA into the city from Media to go on dates, weekend events, etc. it will most likely add up to be competitive with what you are paying in wage taxes.

Rent is also cheaper in the city, overall, because there are more housing options.

So between the two, you are not really saving that much, IMO.

This is actually a great option if you are into mountain bikining as that the Wiss is in your back yard. Also great if you dont want a car as that its walkable.
