Until citizens, politicians, and voters end the philosophy of "victimhood", nothing will change because it does nothing to address the underlying issues. Because victimhood sells, particularly in a city like Philadelphia, it won't change anytime soon unfortunately. What can be done, however, is to do our best to keep decent people safe from bad people. This involves enforcing laws, getting criminals off the street, and keeping them locked up. Inexplicably, people like Kenney, Krasner, and Outlaw seek to do the exact opposite. It's nonsensical, but these are the people that the citizens of Philadelphia elected. If you voted for Kenney or Outlaw, then YOU are the problem. People need to smarten up, grow up, and live in the real world, not some progressive liberal fairytale.

Wow, the difference in peoples feelings of security in the past 7 years is staggering. This isnt a small blip this is a huge segment of your citizens who no longer feel safe....Yet are we going to see any change from the destructive progressive policy ? I doubt it.

"Nearly 70% of people living in ZIP codes with the highest rates of violent crime said the department doesn't have enough officers. Those least likely to say more police officers are needed were ages 18-49, with incomes above $100,000 and at least a college degree".

I've said this many times before, I've yet to hear anyone in impoverished neighborhoods calling to defund the police, its the ultra progressive types living in the safety of the suburbs.

Police need to do their damn jobs and stop acting like babies. Nobody is calling to defund them, we're asking them to do what they're paid for. They got their little feelings hurt by the George Floyd protestors and decided to go on a soft strike.

Why would they risk doing anything when they dont have support ? a decision they have seconds to make could land them in prison. The police saw this lack of support, and saw their coworkers get locked up/fired and decided (and I dont blame them) to do the bare minimum..Enjoy the utopia that has been created in all of these large cities.

You must not read my colleague Ernest Owens, then.

He is calling for defunding the police.

Doesn't negate your point about the soft strike, but did want to point that out.

Completely agree - why should they do anything to stop crime, when the leadership of their department and the city don't have their back? It's rare to even see police in Center City these days.

100% this. There is not one single elected official in Philadelphia calling for defunding the police. As a matter of fact, the PPD has had its budget increased year after year. The mayor and several council members are calling for further increases in FY23.

The police have been useless babies for years now. They routinely don't show up when called and just in general don't give a **** when you report a crime, especially something involving traffic. Too many instances from people in my network to even count. And btw, this started wellllll before the pandemic.

That's just too bad. They signed up to do a job. Do it. The police have support from every elected official in the city including the Mayor. And they have been this way for YEARS, well before the "defund the police" movement from suburban liberals started.
