Can anyone recommend any thrift stores that actually sell fashionable clothing and not tattered, last-minute Halloween costume rags?

Living in Ohio for a while; there's tons of them everywhere and the clothing is high quality and wearable in public w/o anyone having a clue. Most of my professional clothing that I've gotten great jobs with, have been from these stores and nobody would guess. $80 shirt... $5 at the thrift!

Thanks for any relevant replies

Rather than accusing people of not responding because they are from Philly, did you ever stop and think that maybe no one really knows? I'd say it's a fairly reasonable statement that the average City-Data user does not generally shop at thrift shops.

In all seriousness, though, I don't really know of any. However, I keep hearing commercials for Plato's Closet. I just googled them, and there's on in Springfield (Delco), 1 in Maple Shade NJ, 1 in Deptford NJ, 1 in Langhorne PA, and 1 in Paoli PA. They sell used fashion clothing.

I know there are other, non-chain thrift shops, but I can't say where they are.

How about Buffalo Exchange at 17th and Chestnut?

A step up from that - i.e. discontinued/overstocks - would be Daffy's on the same block.

You can take the time to reply to your own thread about people not responding because they're from Philly but you can't take the time to google it?

There are thrift stores all over the place that have what you're looking for. South St. might be a place to start.

There we go guys! See... the trick I've learned through this exact experience; the squeaky wheel gets the grease. If I wouldn't have said anything... more and more views, with no replies...

Rationale: Why would anyone bother to view if they don't know? The title says exactly what I'm inquiring about... so viewing this and not even replying further supports my presumption that folks just don't care—to even post a comment that takes a few seconds?... It's obvious that some of you do (care) and I'm grateful!

Furthermore... I DID google; it takes longer to post in here than to search, but what a search doesn't yield is LOCAL opinions. I'm not going to haul all over town just to find out the place sucks and has rags etc... Hence why I thought it'd be worth posting here Vs blind-eye'd searching...

TGIF...

Maybe you would have had better luck if you said Center City or West Philly or something. Local Philly covers a large area and most people aren't going to travel an hour to go to a thrift store.

It isn't a true thrift store in the manner you want, but Forman Mills is a place you should check out.

Churches and hospital guilds on the Main Line have a bunch of thrift shops -- more than a few have good clothing at decent prices. I couldn't tell you the names or exactly where they are, but drive out Lancaster Avenue on Saturdays and take a gander.

The best thrift store I've found has been at Aramingo Ave and York Street in Port Richmond. With the right eyes, you can find some great stuff. I always do.
