Hi! We are considering moving back out to the valley form Tucson. We have had to file foreclosure AND bankruptcy (ugh..) However we learned some very excellent and meaningful lessons that we'll never forget. My husband loves Chandler, he lived there before we were married. I am considering it, but I know the Chandler/Gilbert areas are a little more...ritzy, I guess I would call it. We are lower/middle class. I am going to school and working as a waitress and my husband is a cook. So, we're not rich. We will be renting. I have heard good things about the schools, however my concern is that my daughter will start school there and feel that she's below everyone else because we aren't wealthy. Do these schools have a snooty attitude?I understand this is a stereotype, which is why I am asking opinions from people who know! I'd hate for her to be teased for lack of money! I want to stay north of the san tan freeway, west of the 101, and east of the 10. Any suggestions/ comments?? Thanks!

While we don't live in Chandler, we are lower middle class ever since I went on permanent disability four years ago. We decided to rent in Anthem to get away from high crime areas and I open enrolled my daughter to attend Pinnacle HS which is in my opinion a better school academically than Boulder Creek but it does have alot of rich kids going there. I drive 25 miles everyday taking her and another girl to school and the other girls parents pick them up for the ride back. Financially its a burden on us doing this but I feel its worth it. My daughter loves it there and has made many friends already because of her friendly demeaner. Hasn't been teased by anyone from what she has told us. Just get her involved in activities there and she should fit real well in any school regardless of how poor or wealthy you are.

Hi Essembee;
Can't be sure that is Chandler, is it? or is it Tempe? Or is it Kyrene? Anyway, Chandler schools are not snooty. There is a big low income population in Chandler and those kids are not at all dressing better, acting better, etc. Some of the Hispanic population in Chandler has kids that act better than the rest of the crowd. And there are alot of Hispanic kids in the Chandler schools. It all depends alot on which school you are near and how friendly your kids are. I don't think anyone will make fun of anything. Chandler isn't wealthy. I live there. LOL

Well, it is in the city of Chandler, so long as you are south of the Tempe border; the schools in that area might well be Kyrene. I think the kids will be fine.

Rather than ritzy I think the areas you are talking about are just newer. I'm with the others, you and your kids will be fine.
