I lost my birth certificate. I need to get a new one. I googled and came across the the phoenix gov site but it's redirecting me to this other site called vitalcheck.com. Can this site be trusted right? I live in pittsburgh so I can't drive to phoenix to recover it.

Ok they want a valid id? That's the problem. I'm trying to renew my id but I can't without showing a birth certificate :/

I had to go through them to obtain copies of records from New York. Unless it's a copy-cat site, it was 100% legit. I'm positive that was the name of it though.

ETA: I just went to their website. It looks exactly the same as when I used it a couple of years ago.

Vital check is the only way to do it unless you go in persona. It's totally fine.

Do you want a valid id or a birth certificate? If you have a valid id you can get a birth certificate. You just need to get a notarized statement and fill out their form, pay the fee and sit back. Generally, if you lose your Arizona DL you can get a replacement online, too (although I think you used to have your DL# - duh, if I had my DL# I would probably still have my DL) You can always take your DL # off one of those photo radar tickets you got!

Good answer. I don't know my driver's license number either. Best I write it down promptly.

On a side note: 60 Minutes - oh, about 10 years ago - did a piece on obtaining a drivers license and SS card off the street somewhere in Los Angeles - for about $75.00. As long as you didn't care what the name was. You did have to specify male or female. And provide a picture of yourself.
