We have the option of moving to either Gilbert Chandler and Glendale. We are not sure the best area of the 3?

What are you looking for? What would make you define an area as "the best"? All of these cities have good things, and some not so good things. Give us an idea of what you are looking for in a home and a community, what you do in your free time, your budget and MOST IMPORTANTLY where you will be working, and we'll try to help.

There is already a WEALTH of information on all three cities here. Use the search function at the top of the page, and you will find threads on each city. If you still have specific questions, ask away!

Any info from you would be great as well. Any kids? What's your budget? Where will you be working? How can anyone possibly give you advice without at least this minimal amount of information?

The north Glendale / Peoria area is a very desirable rental area with relatively low crime. This is usually reflected in the price (vs. many other areas in the west Valley). I can't speak for the east Valley cities, but imagine that the more expensive areas are also the most desirable in Gilbert/Chandler as well. More centrally located rentals (ie. Phoenix) tend to be higher priced due to being centrally located.

Parts of any of those places would meet those broad criteria. For most people here, where they live is largely influenced by where they work. With gas prices as they are, that's even more true now than it has been in the past. Commutes here can be long and crowded.

This is VERY true for this area. In general the newer sections of town are only differentiated by the proximity to where you work. Neighborhoods have the same repeating big box shopping centers, so most don't worry about being close to shopping. Just about everywhere can be considered "close to shopping" in the east valley and the sections of the west valley I'm familiar with.

Hell, When I need something from walmart I drive passed the one to shop at another. If I need to go to costco at the same time I drive passed 2 walmarts to shop at the one closer to costco. The culture of the area is very modern consumerist, which means just about every national chain has a high concentration of stores here. Being close to where you shop isn't much concern.

Where you will be commuting to and schools are the driving force to where to live here. Each and every city has it's good and bad sections with crime. The double yellow on the road is sometimes all that separates a bad neighborhood from a great one, another trait that I think is unique to this area.

Cross roads are the best indicator of landmarks here, so tell what cross streets are close to where you expect to be working. for example, if you worked at the new Rudy's BBQ joint you would say "i work near chandler blvd and 56th street". this metro area is roughly the size of Massachusetts. You can't get good local information without giving up some information. you wouldn't want someone to recommend Pittsfield if you worked in Boston!!

Glendale's northern side would be all right because it's newer and more family-friendly but the rest of the city is older and not as desirable, higher crime rates the more south you go.

Lots of suburban areas throughout metropolitan Phoenix would fit what you're searching for, not just the three cities you wrote about.

Of the three, Gilbert and Chandler would be your best places to look.

Neither are totally crime-free but you can still find some decent rentals in safe locations with very reasonable rates in this post-recession economic period.
