I am having trouble finding a dentist that will fill a cavity before doing a $760.00 'deep cleaning'. I'm disabled and retired and have limited funds. I have Cigna Dental thru Medicare, but would go outside their required list of doctors.

Please read this Dental Exam/Cleaning Costs in the Valley and what I posted in post #2. In summary based on what I eventually learned, I would never EVER go to a corporate dentist. Because of the fast growth, PHX is filled with corporate dentists (new dentists debt is MASSIVE so they work for corporate which motivated them to extract more things from you than teeth. Our daughter is a dentist now and what I just said is very well known. Why there isn't an expose on the topic yet is beyond me. 60 Minutes could blow the lid on these practices.

Re: where to go. You said you have limited funds. There are three dental schools in town. Each has a discounted program where you work with the 3rd and 4th year dental students. Their work is overseen by licenced dentists (a.k.a. instructors). The trade-off is that it can be SLOW. Especially with a crown and you would need to budget a few trips. But crowns are $450 (normally $1000+). The advantage is you are helping out someone who is trying to learn the procedures and price. I suspect your drilling and filling of the cavity will cost no more than $75 at any of the schools and it is a one tripper.

In your case it is a simple matter of "drill and fill" which is a piece of cake! Good luck. Since our daughter went to one of these local schools, we still go to that school clinic and take care of the routine 6 month maintenance. I think a cleaning is around $50. So cheap it's not memorable.
