My husbands company is transferring him to Phoenix, possibly immediately. We may have up to one month, at most.
He will be working at the Phoenix Sky Harbor Int'l Airport and would like to be within a 30 min commute. We are coming from the suburbs north of Houston, and would like to find an area that is similar to what we are used to. Master-planned with lots of amenities, great family-friendly area. We have three boys (9,7,3) so good schools are a top priority as well as a community with great youth sports leagues.
Our budget is around $250,000.
Any input would greatly help our search!

Master planned within thirty minutes of the airport is a bit limiting.(depending somewhat on the time of day of the commute). They all tend to be "family friendly" (except the ones in the far outskirts designed for retirees). Those who live in the areas that might be close to what you want in terms of distance will chime in and help you out.

I think Anthem (where I live) is the most family-friendly community and is certainly up there with respect to community amenities. That being said, it's a bit more than 30 mins north of the airport. I'm in sales and work from home when not traveling, so I go to/from the airport 2-3x/mth. In non rush hour traffic, it's more like 35-40 mins.

Ahwatukee/Mountain Park Ranch is your new home! 250 might be a little low though. Remember, you won't be paying 10K a year property taxes here, so maybe you can go a little higher on the mortgage.

Thank you! My husbands commute in Houston now can be well over an hour some days, so we'd like to avoid that. 45 minutes could be acceptable. I will check out Anthem as well as Ahwatukee/ Mountain Park Ranch. What about the Chandler or Gilbert areas? They seem very large, how is crime in those areas?

There's grime everywhere, but Chandler and more so Gilbert, are relatively low crime areas. They don't have as many master planned communities, especially closer in, but they do have good schools and, I suspect, good sports leagues.

As quick as you are having to do this, and as unfamiliar as you are with the area, I'd strongly advise you to rent first and give yourselves time to find where you really want to live before committing yourselves to a purchase.

What North Houston suburbs are you coming from? Deerbrook area, Spring, Woodlands, Willowbrook area. I lived there for a year and was born and raised here. That would help tell you what may be comparable.

That would be great! We're from Northeast Houston, Kingwood specifically.

Ok. You are by Humble, just north of the mall. And you want to be within 30 minutes from the airport. I would personally suggest the Ahwatukee area of Phoenix, which is right behind South Mountain. Also South Mountain neighborhoods just south of Baseline Rd, and east of 20th street. West Chandler and South Tempe also could give you a residential and demographic environment similar to the area of Houston you are coming from.

I'd also suggest the Ocotillo area of Chandler as the commute wouldn't be bad at all
