Hi,

Chandler area

I need some recommendations in choosing the providers for high speed broadband internet.
I will require a minimum of 7MBPS.
Can you please suggest some provider and how to get the best rates

Cox has the best internet in the valley in my opinion. DSL (Centurylink) has always been lacking when compared to cable internet.

And I disagree. My experience has been the exact opposite: we had Cox in our other house in Tolleson, and quite frequently the service became unusable, and we had the latest modem available at the time. We rarely (if ever) have any such issues with CenturyLink.

Remember that cable is a shared connection while DSL is a dedicated connection, so DSL is inherently immune from slowdowns during peak Internet usage times.

It is all shared at some point, that is a common deception/selling point used by DSL providers. DSL providers can oversubscribe their service at the point where it becomes shared. Also, DSL service degrades the farther you live from the node.

You can go to dslreports.com and read the reviews of cox cable internet and ceturylink dsl and you'll find people are generally much more satisfied with cable internet. Of course DSL is usable and will work fine for most users but overall cable internet is thought to be more desirable. Cox users rate Cox a 3.64 out of 5 and Centurylink users rate Centurylink a 2.92 out of 5 on DSL reports.

I've had cable internet and dsl internet for 15 years and cable has always been the superior service in my experience. I will say, I've never had DSL since living in the valley the last five years.

Note that such online reviews are never to be taken seriously, as those who post negative reviews of one provider might be a customer or employee of another (which is a serious conflict of interest). Also remember that people are more likely to post negative reviews than positive ones, often to the point of defamation.

Trust me, I would not lie about my own unbiased personal experiences.

If you take that view of all "online reviews" it could just as easily pertain to "online recommendations" as there is nothing to say that you and I don't work for Cox and Centurylink. There comes a point where you have to accept what is being said as we're all just a bunch of anonymous people using fake names SAYING one thing or the other that we can't prove is accurate.

Also saying "remember that people are more likely to post negative reviews than positive ones" would apply to both cox and centurylink and since cox has more internet subscribers I would suspect they would come out less favorable if your logic were true, wouldn't you think?

I'm living in Raleigh, NC now and the only choice I have is Time Warner Cable. I'd pay extra to have Cox Cable back again. I had them for years, found their internet and phone services flawless. A beautiful thing compared to TWC. And don't even get me started on the TWC TV, customer services, pricing structure, etc. etc. etc.

I KNOW it's hard to believe, but Cox Cable is one of the few things I miss about Phoenix except my friends.

I live in Goodyear and have Cox Internet, here are my speeds and this is while I'm streaming a HD movie on Netflix. Speeds are like this anytime of the day or night. Very happy with cox internet in my neighborhood. Of course some neighborhoods may be more oversold then my neighborhood but overall cox has reliable and speedy internet.

You also need to remember that your access to the internet is only as quick as the server you're trying to retrieve information from can handle. For instance, some nights (mainly Friday and Saturday's in primetime) I get slowdowns using HBO GO which is due to HBO's servers being busy with lots of people using their services. I still get blazing speeds on my internet connection and to other sites like Netflix but HBO doesn't seem to be able to handle their volume on busy nights.

I don't miss Cox at all. After having it for several years, I got fed up with the equipment failures (the box, the modem, the remote) and all those phone calls to them which went no where. Now Century Link here offers Prism which I bundle with 12mbs internet and I pay less than $100 including Showtime. Downgraded from 20mbs and don't notice any difference but save $10 a month. Plus if you are unhappy, retention specialists will find you a "deal" to keep your business. For phone, I have Ooma at $3.82 a month.

I wholeheartedly agree about Cox's TV service, I tried them when we first moved here and the service was terrible. Constant pixelization and the DVR was terrible with constant lockups, slow to respond, etc. I got rid of them and got satellite for TV and have been much happier. I also have Ooma for phone service which has been outstanding and cheap.

Internet on the other hand has been solid here with Cox.
