Hi All,
We are relocating to Phoenix in couple of months from CA. Wife will be working at the VA medical center on 7th & E Indian School Rd. So, we are looking for some safe and quiet apartments that wouldn't put too much commute time on my wife. Rent is not a major consideration, considering what we are paying now in CA. Major consideration is safety and commute time to VA. Since, I work from home, we would rather be as close to VA as possible, but without sacrificing safety.

I have been looking around the apartment websites, but did not find any apartment that is a must rent. So, any recommendations would be really appreciated.

Thanks
John

You can never go wrong with any property managed by Mark Taylor. Good luck!

Well with a $2,000 budget for rent you can live wherever you want honestly. I would look at "44 Monroe" which is in Midtown Phoenix really close to your job at the VA. Rent for 1 bedroom condos start at around $1300 however that does not include hoa fees and I am not sure how much that would cost monthly but you would still be within your budget either way. Check it out 44 Monroe | Apartment Homes in Phoenix

To clarify, 44 Monroe is downtown, not midtown, but it is fairly close. If you are going to look at downtown highrises like 44 Monroe, there is also the Residences at CityScape and the Summit at Copper Square, the latter being condos but there are several rentals.

I used to work at the VA. There is a nice, single level, small apartment complex at the southwest corner of Missouri and 20th St. Has a pool & laundry bldg. Lots of cupboards in the kitchen, 2 bedrooms. I can't remember the name, it's a 5-min drive down 7th St. to the VA if even that. On Missouri going east, in the next block or 2 are a few nice-looking apt buildings but I had not seen inside, think 2-story.

Directly across the street from the VA (southwest side of Indian School) is a large complex, many buildings, might be 10 years old. One of the VA employees moved there and loved it-- he was single at the time, late 40s.

If you don't come across anything better, you could rent one of those apts with a short lease to give you time to find something long term. Traffic is congested in that area though.

Also, I lived in North Phoenix (other areas of the city prior) on Bell Rd near 7th St-- 22-25 min to get to the VA and 35 min to get home after work. Traffic moves well on 7th St. The address of the mobile home park I lived in is 205 W Bell Rd. On the south side of the street and almost next door going east are apartments. Someone I knew had moved there and said it was very nice-- that was about 7 yrs ago.

Thanks Kimballette. I will take a look at the Mark Taylor's San Pedregal property, which seem to be in our desired commute range

Thanks BuckeyeBoy. I have looked at that property before. Its not the price, but not sure we want to be in a high rise property.

I, too, would recommend condos or apartments in mid-town. Maybe Central between McDowell and Indian School.

Personally I would look at Optima Camelview. Downtown and Midtown Phoenix is not what you think it is, it's pretty dead and depressing. Optima is actually in Scottsdale but reasonably close to central phoenix, shouldn't be too much of a commute, but a much nicer area.
