Hi-

I was wondering if there are any bodies of water in public parks where dogs are allowed to swim? Or at least tolerated. :-)

Also, I thought I read something about the water being waste water? So, it might not be safe?

I do realize that its the desert,.. :-)

Thanks for any advice. -d.

None of the parks have ponds or lakes that would be safe to swim in. The source of the water is not the issue so much as the other bacteria that grow in those ponds/lakes over time, and flourish in the warmer weather that's when the dogs are most likely to be swimming. It is not worth the risk. The swimming pool at home is the best option.

Cosmo Park in Gilbert has a dog park area with a pond. I see dogs in the pond all the time, but I can't say how safe it is.

I can't imagine that water is any better than in any other park pond. Conceivably, it could be worse. I would never take my dog to a dog park, anyway, but the pond is just another risk, to me.

I take my dog to the river or the lakes (East valley) to swim. The only place that dogs are not allowed is Butcher Jones Beach at Saguaro Lake. I've also gone to Cosmo's Dog Park, but I don't care for dog parks, as you have no idea the health of the other dogs present.

My lab swam all the time at park lakes you weren't suppose to let the dog off leash. He never got sick I always washed him when we got home with the hose I didn't want that stinky pond water in the house.

Your dog should NEVER be off leash unless in an enclosed area. That's for the safety of your dog and the general public. Oh, and it's the law, as well.

Actually it's only city law not county or state.

Aaaaand? It's still the law. Why not keep your dog safe and follow the law? I'd never take my dog to a dog park, but Cosmo Dog Park in Gilbert has very nice amenities, including a lake for dogs to swim in.

I think maybe Lake Pleasant might be the only safe body of water around here. The dog parks I visited were ok (did not see Cosmo) with the exception of Washington park, which reeked of urine.
Thanks, All!
