We have been investigating the possibility of a retirement home at Sun City Anthem@Merrill Ranch and have concerns about the new Copper Project in Florence. We understand it is in Phase I now and would like to know if residents are seeing an impact and what they foresee in the future.

Also, when we visited last month we did smell "cows" one early morning. Can anyone in the area explain this and it's frequency? We've read so many positive (and a few negative) reviews of this community and only saw the reference to the "cow smell" once.

I'm not sure what impact the mine will have on Anthem as that part of Florence feels more like an extension of San Tan Valley based on location rather that the old town of Florence which is several miles Southeast. Looks like the mining would be done near the Gila River which is near the old town part of Florence. This would be a question for your Realtor to find out if there is a possibility of any contamination of ground water as far away as Anthem.

Hi, I have had a home in Anthem for 6 years, the cow smell is very rare and doesnt last that long, the copper mine at this time doesnt have EPA approval hard telling what will happen, the town and developers are fighting it very hard. there is a site that gives some insite to the mine, protect our water our future, something like that just search and it will come up, also the Gila Indians are against it as will
