There seems to be two camps on the thing, those that stick with the picture mode set to Movie (ECO mode off) and those who want to calibrate further. I am in the first camp. Lots of good info here: http://http://www.avsforum.com/forum...rice-talk.html

That's because the first camp doesn't know any better.

Seriously though, if you hook up a meter, Movie mode is close to what it should be, but only in relation to the other settings. It itself is still pretty far from what it should be and there is a big difference before and after.

This. I grew up in a small town and even there, we had multiple stores that carried that stuff but nowadays, Fry's Electronics is my first and only stop for that stuff.

I don't go to Fry's Electronics that often, but kind of enjoy the odd vibe of the stores.

The Tempe one is a little unusual, in that it doesn't have the obvious design schemes of most of the other Fry's in the U.S. (It's supposed to be themed around "Golf, but I don't see it.) The one on Thunderbird is built as a Aztec temple, and the one I went to in Woodland Hills (CA) was designed around Alice in Wonderland.

Some of the other Fry's theme stores:

California:

1950s Sci-Fi (Burbank)
Polynesia (Manhattan Beach)
Ancient Rome (Fountain Valley)
Wild West (Palo Alto)
Mayan temple at Chichen Itza (San Jose)
Spirit of Oxnard (Oxnard)
Alice in Wonderland (Woodland Hills)
History of Silicon Valley (Sunnyvale)
Ancient Egypt (Campbell)
1893 Chicago World's Fair, the first electric city (Fremont)
Industrial Revolution (City of Industry)
California Gold Rush (Sacramento)
NASA Space Center (Anaheim)
19th-century California Railroads (Roseville)
Atlantis (San Marcos)
Top Gun / Military Aircraft(Work In Progress) (San Diego)

Arizona stores:

Aztec temple (Phoenix)
Golf theme (Tempe)

Indiana stores:

History of Indianapolis Motor Speedway (Fishers)

Nevada stores:

History of the Las Vegas Strip (Paradise)

Texas Stores:

Music Industry (Austin)
Warehouse (Arlington)
History of Irving (Irving)
Lazy-K Ranch (Dallas)
Oil Industry (Houston)
Space Exploration, including a replica of the International Space Station (Webster).
History of Plano (Plano)
