Whenever we're in the national news, it's always something bad.

In case you haven't noticed, the "news" is overwhelmingly negative towards just about anything/anyplace, at least based on what I see. I can dig up "news" on any city or state and find article after article that is overwhelmingly negative. Click on those articles and you feed that trend.

And of course nothing positive happens in any city/state anymore because the "news" "always" says so, right?

Arizona, and Phoenix in particular, have a long history of abusive policing. The Miranda case happened right here, so you might think voters would be a little more sensitive to the constitutional issues involved, but that isn't the case.

Arizonans don't trust the government to do anything right, except policing, and the police can do no wrong. Case in point - Joe Arpaio. Hundreds of millions of dollars mis-spent, a consistent history of lost civil cases due to abuse & constitutional violations. In court, he can't remember anything, but he's an expert who knows everything when the tv cameras are rolling. He's a simple county sheriff with more money in his re-election campaign than many senators, much of it provided by out-of-state (senile) donors who eat up his race-baiting email chains. I'm pretty sure when the old bastard finally kicks, they'll freeze his head & re-elect him one more time just to spite obammy & the illegals.

Timing is everything.

The NY Times article was dated last Friday.

Ducey vetoed the bill on Monday.

This was posted on Tuesday.

No wonder the idiot legislature does so much stupid stuff. Nobody appears to pay any attention.

He shouldn't have vetoed it... The bill apparently didn't FOREVER conceal the identity of the officer, only for 60 days. In other words, until after the angry mobs have put down their pitchforks and the facts have come out.

It was a dumb, poorly thought out idea as most of them out of our legislature are. Even the police agencies urged him to veto. Police can withhold the name as long as is necessary to protect an officer's safety under current law and rules. Ducey got this one right

He did the right thing. Hopefully the Times will catch up.

The Times doesn't need to "catch up". They reported on the veto the day it was issued, before this thread began.

The similarity is obvious on this post. In both locations people avoid the more meaningful discussion concerning the social pathologies that plague the African American community. Instead reference to Ferguson turn to discussions of, not the pathological behavior of the perpetrator, but of how police behave. Is police behavior what plagues the African American communities? I would argue this is the least of their problems!
