Hey guys,

I am interested in buying a kayak and checking out the lower salt river.

But for those who have done this, I had some questions:

1) Where is the best place to kayak and avoid those crazy college tubers?

2) Also, when I kayak, how do I get back to my car? This may seem like an obvious question, but do I have to walk back or can I just kayak back up river?

3) any other advice you would have for someone like me kayaking the salt river for the first time? Like what kind of kayak should I purchase?

Thanks for the help and can't wait to get out on the river

Ryan

#2 - The best way is to have two people and take two cars. One parks where you are going to start and the other where you plan to finish. Drive back to the other car.

Is there anyway around this? I only have one car that will hold the kayaks so having to find another car to do this every time is a pain. Any other ideas?

That's where the kayak club linked above may be able to help you.

Stash the kayaks and hitch hike back to your car.

Stash a bicycle and one of you rides back to the car while the other one waits with the kayaks.

Why not just kayak at the lakes and forget the river idea?

If the river current is slow, kayak upstream then float downstream. Never go against the current on your way back -- that's just asking to wear yourself out.
