I'm looking into buying a property in Arizona, but I'd love some input from locals in "West Phoenix", specifically Buckeye/Goodyear/Tonopah.

I'm intent on buying a good plot of land there this year and wanted to ask a few questions.

- How is the water situation? Some of the plots of land I'm looking at are over an hour from Phoenix, and I'm pretty sure they are not hooked up to city utilities. I was thinking about having water storage on site and ordering 500-1000 gallons every few months when I need a refill.

- Electricity. If I am far from public utility hookup, is solar and a battery bank a viable solution? I'm guessing yes because... Arizona.

- Shooting on property. What are the local laws? I've read different things (1/4 mile away from occupied structure, public road, etc). What's the actual deal? If I have 10-15 acres, would I be good on setting up a dirt berm and shooting on my property without getting hassled by the local sheriff?

- If I build a home on the property, would you recommend stilts? I've heard the area sometimes has flash floods.

- Also since I won't be living there full-time, what about security? I know things when not looked at for long periods of time tend to grow legs and walk away.

Thanks for any input.

Well water is dooable but going to cost you If you haul water I'm sure it's a cost but not a big one if you do it yourself

- Electricity. If I am far from public utility hookup, is solar and a battery bank a viable solution? I'm guessing yes because... Arizona. If you plan on having A/C off grid is not feasible because you just need too much current most are grid tied they use the electric utility as a battery (Net Metering) If you do not plan on having A/C then yes Solar with battery is doable (Assuming you only be here in the winter months)

- Shooting on property. What are the local laws? I've read different things (1/4 mile away from occupied structure, public road, etc). What's the actual deal? If I have 10-15 acres, would I be good on setting up a dirt berm and shooting on my property without getting hassled by the local sheriff? Each city has it's own laws on shooting all of them it's illegal inside city limits unless you get a permit like an indoor shooting range State law says you have to be a mile from a home or structure (Shannon's law) they are trying to change it back to 1/4 mile like it used to be ARS 13-1307 has exceptions such as hunting

- If I build a home on the property, would you recommend stilts? I've heard the area sometimes has flash floods. You don't need stilts because you won't be able to get a permit from the county or city to build in a wash or flood area

- Also since I won't be living there full-time, what about security? I know things when not looked at for long periods of time tend to grow legs and walk away. I would suggest professional security system which includes 24 hour camera monitoring lock up any tools in mini-mobile type containers bolt cutting proof locks that don't expose the lock to bolt cutters rural homes left unattended for lengths of time will be broken into just a matter of time

Thanks for any input.
