I saw a bee swarm this weekend flying over my house last year on March 26th a hiker was killed when attacked by over 1000 bees on Usery Mountain Hiker dies after 1,000 bees attack at Usery Mountain. Need to get the word out if this is your first year in Arizona you're from the north east we have africanized bees or hybrids of them which are more aggressive.

Bees kill more people each year than any other insect while the bark scorpion gets more attention. Loud noises can cause bees to attack like landscaping motors line trimmers lawn mowers with the noise you might not even hear them coming until it's too late.

Some good information on what to do if your attacked by bees.

The fatal bee encounter at Usery Mountain occurred on May 26, not March 26, of last year. Otherwise, you're right. Bees can be a danger, especially as it warms up, and everyone should be aware of how to respond to them.

Good article. But in point one, "Don't wear strong perfume, shiny jewelry or dark clothing in an area known for having Africanized bees". The whole metro area is in an area known for having Africanized bees. I've seen swarms at Christown Mall and other stores in town.

For me the bottom line is leave the bees alone. Give any swarms/hives space. I've only been stung a few times in the last 15 years. And it was almost always when unknowingly squishing the bee while picking up something.

You're right thanks for the correction was late last night when I posted that. I was thinking about it because swarms are starting up leave the hive to start a new hive.

One thing I didn't know was most healthy people can out run bees they suggest running into the wind which makes a lot of sense I have always known the best defense if you can't get inside a car or home is to run as fast and far as you can from the attacking bees.
