I'm curious why so many people think The Republic is a conservative newspaper. Maybe 10 years ago - not today. Their lead columnists like E.J. Montini and Laurie Roberts definitely aren't and I'm hard pressed to find anything from their Editorial Board that would be considered right leaning opinion as well. Robb is about the only one I can think of who isn't left of center - he's more moderate than anything else. I read a number of newspapers both "left" and "right" and, despite its history, would never consider The Republic to be a conservative newspaper. Am I missing something here?

Their endorsements have fairly consistently gone to Republicans with Trump and Arpaio recent notable exceptions. Let's see how they weigh in on this year's races to see if there is a trend. Montini and Roberts are columnists who are not on the editorial board. Steve Benson IS on the board, though.

Paper is getting rewarded with prizes for shifting left to become a liberal rag. I wouldn’t line a birdcage with the paper. Just another arm of the democrat propaganda machine. No thanks.

Don't take my word for it:

Historically, The Republic has tilted conservative editorially... (Wikipedia)

The Republic was one of many major papers with conservative editorial boards... (Money)

I suppose you'll now tell us that those aren't reliable sources, and we should believe your personal opinion instead?

Yes, exactly. Those are liberal sources, particularly Money magazine. They are part of Time, which puts flaming pictures of President Trump on their covers. But hey, that doesn’t mean anything.

There are plenty of faux “conservative” never Trump types. This would include “conservatives” like McCain who typically side with democrats.

With all due respect, that doesn't mean anything. Historically, The Republic has been a conservative newspaper. That doesn't mean it still is. Just going by the columns and opinions they publish on an almost daily basis, I'm going to say they're not anymore. But let's see who and what they endorse this year...

I don't really have a problem with them being a left leaning / liberal newspaper if that's what they are. Most newspapers/media organizations are these days. But let's call a spade a spade here. Claiming it's conservative just to be able to say that "Even The Republic is against this" is disingenuous.

The sad thing is that you actually believe this nonsense. McCain has a lifetime rating of over 80% from the American Conservative Union because he typically sides with Democrats. Right.

No true conservative would consider McCain anything but a moderate to leaning liberal.....he wouldn't even have won his primary if he hadn't lied his a** off then reneged on his promise as soon as he was elected.....he was the very essence of a Rhino.

The only reason liberals don't like him is because he was a hawk when it came to using military force.

That's because the majority of the votes are party line votes on things no one cares about or even hear about.

Wikipedia is a personal opinion. You can put anything on there.
