Looks like Queen Creek will be starting its own municipal Police Department, ending its longtime contract with MCSO. The transition should take about 18 months.

I'm surprised it took this long. I have seen many smaller cities/towns that have their own police departments.

“(W)hat I’m really most proud of is that we’ve been so responsible that we’ve put money aside, it’s earmarked and there will not be a tax increase to move this police department forward,” for NOW. Taxes WILL go up over time for pay increases etc etc. But yes there are good reasons for having your own police department. But expect to pay.

Now I just wonder how will this affect the county islands surrounding QC now that MCSO is leaving. Will MCSO retain their substation in QC, or will this become the new QCPD station? Will MCSO build a new substation nearby to serve the county islands?
