Hi! I’m looking for a black church to attend in the Chandler & Gilbert area. I’ve tried using PHXSOUL, but the churches highlighted are mostly in Phoenix. Thanks for the help!

You'd be hard pressed to find one black person in Gilbert (joke), much more so a whole church full of them. Chandler is not quite as fluorescent white, but you most likely will run into similar issues.

I know you don't want to drive out here, but there are quite a few black churches in my neighborhood, Eastlake, which is just east of downtown. I personally know members of the First Institutional Baptist Church at 1141 E Jefferson St and they are very good people.

I also highly recommend the New Home Baptist Curch at 1144 W Sherman St over in Westside City. They were nice enough to put on a free covid vaccination event for the community and were very nice to me and our kids.

And good luck in your persuit!

Black churches exist where larger pockets of black people live. Agree with the PP said about that not being the case in Glibert or Chandler. You might like Faith Christian Center. It's near Downtown. Also Roosevelt Community Church is multicultural with a black lead pastor. PP also mentioned FIBC.

I can testify to faith Christian center. It may a little too far for the OP but I love it

Contrary to outdated belief, their are quite a few black people in Gilbert. In fact, I see way, way more black people everyday here than I ever did in North Phoenix. As Gilbert grows, the Mormon population gets smaller and smaller. Many people of all walks of life live here now. Shocking, I know.

That being said, as Gilbert is a "newer" community, the concept of segregating the belief in Jesus by race is kind of an antiquated concept. I attend Rock Point Church and the members are very diverse. They have black people on staff and the worship team.

Anyone is welcome to attend a historically black church. The culture, music etc... is different than in a historically white church under white leadership. Period. Being able to worship in an atmosphere where you are comfortable and perhaps what you grew up with is pretty standard. Historically, black people were not allowed to read the bible. As enslaved people, black people could not gather and have their own church services. Only white people have issues with historically black churches. You can think Rock Point Church is diverse, but that's your perception. Mine is that it's a white church. There are 8 people listed on their staff leadership page and they are all white.

The real antiquated concept in this thread is the belief deities in general!

It's 2022 and black people are treated equal - if not superior - to the whites and all other races. Seriously, let go of the past and move on.

I'm really not sure what this has to do with anything in this thread. Although I will say your perception is exactly that: yours based on your reality.
