Hi!

I recently bought a condo (2nd home) near FLW and Raintree Rd. When I visit out there, renting a car at the airport is killing me financially. Is there a savings to rent a car off the airport property? I thought I read years ago that one pays a premium to rent at the airport. I'm not sure taking a shuttle somewhere and then get a car would save me money or not?!

Would love to buy a cheap car but until then.....

Thanks for any advice!

If you are renting for more than a couple weeks at a time then a local agency that isn't part of a national chain will have the best deals. The local agencies don't have airport locations so you won't have to pay the extra tax.

Also, always reserve a car in advance by calling the rental company's central reservations. You get a much better rate that way than just walking in and asking for a car.

If you buy an Entertainment book online, there are always coupons in there for the major car rental places. Since those coupon books are annual, you could probably pick one up for around $15 at this time of year. Well worth the price IMHO, considering the savings. As a bonus, you'll have coupons for two-fers at a lot of the local restaurants and attractions.

Hi,

I always book months in advance. And, I do have an Entertainment book but usually the rental places with the lowest fares aren't in there.

I'll have to check into local agencies but so far I haven't found any on the Internet. I probably need to 'dig deeper' into the search results.

Thanks all!

Thanks for the link! I bookmarked it. Also, checking Craig's List for an inexpensive car...but that's another process to deal with!

Thank you so much for the advice! I will check them out. I'm aware of their airport rentals but not off-site rentals.
