Can anyone recommend a good dog kennel in the North Phoenix area? We will need to kennel our dog for a couple of weeks this summer and I don't even know where to start looking. Thanks

The Google ads right under your post have a couple... Applewood Pet Resort is actually more in north central Scottsdale, East Maryland Animal Hospital would be north Phx. I know people who have used both.

I think sending your dog to a kennel is animal cruelty. Don't you have friends that can take of him/her?

Animal cruelty? That's a bit strong. It depends a lot on the location, the staff, the individual situation. Many places really do try to make it as comfortable as possible for the dog, although the extras do usually cost more.

The few times I had to board my dog at the vet, before a friend moved into a house and wanted to keep her for me, they spoiled her unmercifully. Admittedly, she was a favorite of theirs, but when the staff was there, she was never in a cage, came to their staff meetings, and generally made herself at home.

I thought of mentioning having friends take care of the dog, (or a pet sitting service) but that's not an appropriate or workable option for everyone, and I decided that if that was an option for the OP, they wouldn't be looking for a kennel.

To the OP-- if you have no options other than a kennel, ask your vet for recommendations, if your vet doesn't board there themselves.

Seriously? Animal Cruelty? We will be moving to Phoenix in the summer not knowing anyone hence needing a kennal- unless Jnvlv247 you would like to take him. I wasn't asking what you thought of kennels but if in fact there are good ones out there. The one I use at home takes the dogs swimming and let them run in the sprinklers with 6-10 outside playtimes a day with long runs. I can even log on to a computer and see him on webcam. Doesn't sound like animal cruelty to me. It sounds like having someone take care of your pet while you can't.

Have you considered an in-home pet sitter? We have a wonderful vet and have boarded our "baby" there without hesitation, but prefer our "baby-sitter" who comes to our house twice a day for the cost as boarding.

Check out professional pet-sitting organizations on the web and care.com. Over the past 15 years and living in five different states we have NEVER been disappointed.
