This is just sickening no matter what your politics are.

Oldest boy in assault of girl to be tried as adult

Story has been sanitized today but here is the original article.

as an update I saw on the news with them talking to the father and he emphatically wanted his daughter in his care

however, there was a scary amount of ignorance and 3rd world mentality when they were interviewing people in the complex .... including her older sister stating that she didn't believe it could happen because her sister was too young for such things

I heard that they were having discussions with the father (maybe along the lines of you live in America now) and basically what you said. As a dad, I can't imagine shunning my girl in a time of need like that. What happens to love, empathy for your child etc? How does culture/religion trump that? It is just something I can't get my head around. I hope everything works out for this girl and her family. What a terrible thing to have happen.

A perfect example where an "open door" policy just does not work!

Different societies have different points of view and rarely do they merge smoothly.

In some cultures, being born as a girl is the greatest curse . This is one thing that I'm so proud of this country and so grateful to live here.

What a horrible event.

I hope the boys are punished to the fullest extents possible.

And that poor girl. I hope it works out well for her and she is able to recover from this.

I have often thought how fortunate we are in the US that our dominant "immigrant" group originates in a culture which is pretty similar to our own. Europe deals with these issues on a frequent basis.

Well if the father doesn't want her, there are plenty of good families who would adopt her I'm sure!

This kind of story shows how callous people can be towards their own blood in times of need. Is it any different from family members who shun their elderly relatives and shove them in a retirement home and never visit? Or the family who reject their gay child; or prostitute daughter who wants to change her life and needs family support? How removed is American society from this type of behavior?

Wow... what kind of people would care more about being shamed in their little "society" than about their child!
