Been to a few county fairs, but never a state fair... yet...

Maybe someday.

Not this year, but probably next year. We will have to scout out the Pinal County Fair, I think in the spring... We are both working and planning a trip to El Paso to the see the kiddo before the army ships him back to MN

I saw the Moody Blues there in 1995, and Jethro Tull in 1999. Both, were excellent. Otherwise, too many punks there.

As Randy said on MY NAME IS EARL, "The State Fair is like Disneyland for poor people!" Earl and Randy were planning to go see The World's Tallest Midget, which Earl admitted was "kind of a scam. Last year, I think the same guy was The World's Shortest Giant."

I've gone there for most of the years I've been in Phoenix. I'm always down for spin-art, two-headed cows, strange personal collections under the coliseum, Department of Agriculture give-away bags, funnel cakes, and midway rides assembled by crackhead carnies.

My most memorable Arizona State Fair midway scam was back around 1975 or so. There was an exhibit where you could see the "Giant Cambodian Man-Eating Rats! Alive!" The lurid banner above the attraction depicted a giant fanged rat the size of a winnebago crashing through a jungle while terrified G.I.s fired M16s up at it. The supposed rats were in an elevated trough, after you paid your 50 cents you walked up some stairs so you could look down and view them. I should have been tipped off by the people walking back down shaking their heads and yelling "Rip-off!" but I was a born patsy, so I paid my money and walked up. The "giant rats" were, in fact, gophers with teeth filed down into fangs, looking very sad and bedraggled.

I have noticed the 'ghetto/gangbanger' crowd @ the Az State Fair as well.

I took my kids there yesterday. Too hot to do anything. Mostly rides, same as other fair. Petting Zoo was good.

Perhaps the ghetto-punks have ALWAYS been at state fairs. They've just been dressing differently since back in the '50's!

I plan on going next week during the week, when there isn't all the lousy parents not watching their kids.

I don't mind the ghetto-thugs, they are hilarious.
