Husband may be transferred to the Phoenix area. His office would be north Phoenix. We are looking to rent a home (with a pool, of course) spending up to about $1600. Although we are 50, we are raising our 4 year old grandson so we need a place with good schools. We will buy in the area we rent within a year or so (we're taking a HUGE hit on our present house).

Which area's are the best, family friendly, things to do, restaurants. A place that will mess our "mature" personality yet be "Young family"?

"north Phoenix" could be a large area. You have many options, one of which is Anthem. If you gave cross-streets and prefered commute times, that would help get better answers.

Unless your husband's work location is in VERY far north Phoenix, I would not consider Anthem. The Interstate 17 commute would get old, and you'd be driving into Phoenix to get to a lot of entertainment and dining options.

Cross streets will help us give you some guidance.

I don't think Anthem would be too far from, say, the Deer Valley area. That would only be around 15-20 minutes. That's not bad, nor would it get old. There are many new businesses between the Loop 101 and Anthem along I-17, so I don't think that is a concern. The OP's question was: Best place to rent house with small child around [north] Phoenix? There are not many better places in north Phoenix than Anthem. But without knowing where in north Phoenix the job location is, it's tough to know if Anthem would be a good choice or not.
