Default West McDowell Safe?

Is the 6500 block of West McDowell safe enough for a young woman on her own?

It's all relative, but that's not the best part of town.

I would not recommend it. Its pretty close to the heart of Maryvale.

Also: I'm not really a fan of McDowell, anywhere in the city of Phoenix.

You might be right about most of it but does "anywhere in Phoenix" include between Central and 15th Ave where it has the Roosevelt and FQ Story districts on the south side and the Willo and Encanto Palmcroft districts on the North? Those are pretty upscale neighborhoods.

I stand corrected. Those are nice areas, however, the majority of McDowell is in bad shape. There are some pockets however.

I totally agree!!!!!!

Just because a major Street has a reputation of being on the not-so-nice part of a City doesn't mean all neighborhoods along or near that Street are in bad shape.

Maryvale is kind of meh - not the best but not really as bad as what many people make it out to be.

43rd Ave and McDowell is probably the worst area in the valley. If you wish to live there have at it otherwise I would advise anyone not to live in Maryvale. Pretty much McDowell is little Mexico all the signs and businesses are in spanish. The only good area on McDowell is around downtown, but because of the area around it you will have a lot of home breakins and auto thefts.
