Az - welcome back! I never imagined you would switch sides, but then, you've been toying with the idea way back. Now we want to see the photos you've taken with your new baby! Guess your status of Once a Nikonian, always a Nikonian is well...NA now!

Yeah pretty much! I still have my beloved D200, but she's pretty much a display piece since she can't be fixed I really am liking the new baby.

There will be photos soon, as we are going to Alabama next week for the nephew's graduation from flight school at Ft. Rucker!

I'm anxious to try out the video, even though it wasn't really desired in the new camera, it will be neat to see what it does do.

Is the Cannon 5D Mark II appropiate to newcomers to digital photography? I've had the cheaper cameras where I could not change lenses and would like to get one for high quality and long term (the way my 35mm used to be).

Interesting. I've been trying to figure out what advantage you saw with the 5DMKII over the D700, and only came up with two things -- the video, and the higher resolution. You just ruled out the video as a reason. Therefore, the only reason left I can see for switching would be for 21MP resolution. Is that correct, or did I miss something?

Sounds very nice. I have been buying lenses, except for a couple, that I can use with both FF (5D II), and cropped sensors. The first two aren't good for the 5D II, but the rest are:

-Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8
-Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8

-EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM
-EF 200mm f/2.8L USM II (black color with red ring)
-EF 70-200mm f/4L USM (should arrive this week)
-EF 400mm f/4.5-6L USM

While the IS feature is great, I can do without it and save some cash. Lighting is plenty in Alaska all summer when I take most of my photos.

When I buy a 5D II, I will also buy perhaps the EF 17-40L for landscapes.

Well, I'm making the move to the 7D. Should be here this week.
