I checked B&H Photo, and here are some rarely mentioned cameras but great values in my opinion:
Olympus micro four third (MFT) cameras...
With 14-42mm lens, which is equivalent to 18-55 APS-C lens, or 28-84mm full frame lens. These cameras also use in-body stabilization which is fantastic, if you would like to be able to use lenses from a wide variety of mounts while being able to have image stabilization. And being an MFT (as Panasonics recommended above), they are extremely adaptable.
Olympus PEN E-PL1: $299
Olympus E-PM1: $499
Panasonic MFTs...
G3: $618
GF2: $380
GF3: $450

NEX-3 is no longer available. It was replaced with NEX-C3 which I've found to be available for about $500. I've considered that model, but am considering its higher trim (NEX-5N, $599 body, $699 with kit lens) as it would allow me to get the optional view finder.
NEX-C3 ... Probably left over stock item!
