Thanks for all the great feedback, folks. Shooting lightning was a real thrill. I'm glad you liked the shots.

Impressive, kdog!

Have you considered selling some blow-ups that would be suitable for framing?

Wow man.. I'm seeing flashes... This can't be happening, I know I stopped smokin' that stuff long time ago!

Good pictures KDog, the deadly beauty of nature.

Hey guys, thanks.

Bummer, thanks. That's very flattering. No I hadn't thought about selling any of these. Not sure they're good enough. Was there a particular shot you had in mind?

I like 'em all, kdog . . . my first choice would be the fifth (I've always preferred FIFTHS) one!

A series of nicely framed 16x20's would definitely make a statement on one wall.

Followed your link in here from the Grand Canyon pictures and all I can say is WOW! Amazing pictures! Ummm, the strike in #5 looks awfully close!
I like the first one as well because of a combination of the swirling clouds and the lightening.
The sideways lighting is amazing. I can't say that I've ever seen that happen before.

What is the trick to capturing lightening like that?

I took photography many years ago but sadly was never very good at it. I'll stick to admiring the work of others.

Bummer, thanks again for the vote of confidence. My problem with the 5th one is that the bottom of the lightning bolt is obscured by my darn shed. Otherwise, it would be a really good shot. Same thing happened with the double-strike one. The shots go through my pergola, which is also a bummer (oops, sorry ). For those reasons, I think the shots with the lightning strikes in the mountain are the strongest shots. You make a good point though. I really need to print out a couple of these and see how they look in print. Thanks again!

Thanks, Socal. The trick to shooting lightning is to have a good supply of lightning! Really! Other than that, it's really easy. Open shutter. Wait for lightning, close shutter. Honestly, that's about all there is to it.
