...I have had the same problem. I talked to a technician at the old camera shop. He said that what happens is natural skin oils react with oxygen and degrade the rubber. You can't really make it perfect, but if you use a product that removes residue WITHOUT ATTACKING THE RUBBER it can be minimized. He recommended diluting this product 50% with water, then using a microfiber type cloth, like used for detailing a car --

If it needs a nothing try, stick with the same 50% dilution. If it still needs another "swipe" try a bit less water, so you it is 2:1 or 3:1 instead of 1:1... It is powerful stuff and leaves behind no residue...
