Wewoka, OK. The name Wewoka translated means "Barking Water".
Down here in Columbus, Georgia, I've just been discovering from walks on the Riverwalk that there was a settlement-village on the banks of the Chattahoochee called Wewoka, which predated the founding of the city of Columbus. There was a ferryboat that crossed over the river to the Alabama side, where the Creek Nation once thrived.
At that point, prior to around 1829, there were no dams on the Chattahoochee and the rushing waters probably did sound like loud barking... ah, the way things were, and could have been.
