I believe Quantaray is the Ritz Camera house brand and they don't have a particularly good reputation for either build quality or sharpness. The lenses are actually manufactured by a variety of companies. I've heard the 70-300 is made by Tamron, so might be ok. The real question is how well does it work for you. If you like the performance and it's priced right, then maybe it's worth it to you. They seem to be going for around $100 used.
Well the bartering price is about $60 now, as he doesnt own the body anymore. I'm going to shoot a little with it this weekend and see if I like it. My biggest now is my 28mm-135mm IS USM. While I know it's not a high quality lens, the price seems ok for a "learner" lens I can beat up a bit hiking and not feel guilty
Definitely get me closer to those egrets here in the Delaware Bay....
what your actually getting on a non-full frame camera is a view thats around 105-300mm ... your not really seeing a 70-200 view with your camera...
small sensor cameras are nice with telephoto lenses because they end up being lighter and cheaper then full frame telephotos of the same view but on the normal to wide end the views are usually not so great.
typically a 50mm lens on a small frame camera is really acting as a mid-telephoto and is much to close for a general walk around lens, where as a 35mm on a small frame camera i find perfect.
one thing i realized too is the more i spend on better lenses the less it actually cost me.. i sold off almost all my dx lenses and all the pro nikon lenses i bought sold used years later for a smidegeon less then i paid.
i had the use of those high end lenses for less then it would have cost me to buy a off brand lower quality lens..
as an example my nikon 17-55mm f2.8 i paid 1160.00 for 3-1/2 years ago. just sold it for 900.00.
on the other hand my sigma cheaper lens sold for just about 1/2 of what i paid.
always buy the best glass you can if your serious about sticking with photography
