I'm planning to move to Pittsburgh mid-May or the beginning of June. I've been following the Pittsburgh apartment rental market via Craigslist for quite awhile and from their relative scarcity on Craigslist at the present moment, I get the idea that apartments available for May 1 or June 1 move-ins won't be listed/advertised until maybe mid-March. Can anyone confirm this? I don't want to wait to find a place if there aren't going to be many more choices in a few weeks.

Long-distance apartment-hunting is tricky, so I appreciate any advice.

Yes, you're right. Unless the world turns upside down between now and May 1, and the entire Northeast migrates to Pittsburgh, you will find many more listings on April 1 than you see now.

We are in the same situation, and I am really glad to read this post as well as the respond. We found some rentals available in big complexes based on the fact " they always have something" but they don't know yet which apartments would be out for rent in May. Other smaller buildings and homes are available immediately. I guess we also will wait awhile before taking a decision. Good luck to you.

Monroeville is a near suburb with many apt. bldgs. and reasonable rents. Traffic is horrid.
