It sure is a great month almost every year. Cool and be prepared, but in early October it usually isn't that cold yet. Late October there is occasional snow, but not often. Keeping in mind, weather is mother nature and in Pittsburgh we don't have some huge body of water to dictate temperatures as much as some other areas. That being said, the weather can be more unpredictable in our region. If I was going to pick a time to come to Pittsburgh, that would probably be the time though.

Like everyone else mentioned, bring layers you can put on or take off. The days can be lovely, then chill drastically in the evenings.
You'll be busy looking at the changing leaf colors in early October, so that will make up for everything.

"make up for everything? Make up for what? Having beautiful weather and being in one of the nicest cities in the US?

We went to a wedding in Pittsburgh last October 10, and the weather was beautiful the entire time we were there. The wedding day itself was probably low 80s, more like late summer. However, that bride took a big chance with her outdoor wedding!

Having grown up there, I'd say October fits the cliche "October's bright blue weather" most of the time. Lots of "sweater weather". But it is very changeable.

Make up for...any random raindrops that may fall? A random cloud blocking the sunlight for a few minutes?
There's a saying, "sometimes it's good, sometimes it's bad, and there's nothing much you can do about it but carry an umbrella."

It has snowed a few times during Trick or Treat time. Not often though. Usually October is a great month and to be quite honest, November is not too bad either. Times are changing.

I've seen flurries in mid-October, but not in the last decade. I do remember my kids going trick-or-treating with snow on the ground.

We were out there in late October of 2006 (I'm pretty sure that's the year), and we saw a few flurries as we drove out of the state towards Ohio. I honestly do not remember any snow ever at Halloween when I was a kid. If anything, we got kind of warm in our costumes.

Actually, there was about 6 inches of snow in Pittsburgh on Halloween in 1993. That is rare, since the high is usually in the 50s or so. I do remember some Halloween's with a cold damp rain, but usually is just a bit chilly as one would expect heading into November in the northeast.
