I've walked and run past this place many times and was hoping to try it for dinner this evening, but it looks like it may be a bar only. Has anyone ever gone here, and can you confirm if they regularly serve food?

That place used to be called Donny's. I can't remember if they had any food (maybe hotdogs or something), but it was a real dive bar, and most people just came in for six-packs. It may have been upgraded as Howard's but I would guess it still doesn't have anything like a restaurant menu.

I was originally thinking it was a dive too, but it looks like a lot of work has been put in to it. I found a Facebook page, and it says something about hot dogs too.

It definitely looks much nicer on the outside now. Following your comment, I looked up a Facebook page which said they were offering free subs made by Howard during Steelers games . . . I'm going to guess that means they still don't have much of a regular menu.

Yeah, the hot dogs come from one of those glass-box rotisserie machines, the sort you find in convenience stores. Dino DiFlavio need not fear the competition. It's a dive bar, and not the sort beloved of Pabst-drinking, skinny-jeans wearing Lawrencevillians. I'm not fond of drinking in a place where the barkeep has to buzz you in through the security door first, but it is a curiosity as the only liquor licensee in Park Place and a little slice of genuine unadulterated working-class Pittsburgh.

I think when most dive bars offer food, it's usually microwavable food.
