Bear in mind this thread is intended to merely serve as an opportunity for me to blow off a little bit of steam, and, understandably, I'm a bit frazzled right now. This morning I cleaned out my car and proceeded to pick up approximately a dozen additional pieces of litter cluttering the sidewalk and curb area just within a few doors of my home here in the East End. I then proceeded to drive my car down to Meineke in the Strip, where I'm having my brakes serviced. On my walk back up the hill the amount of garbage I passed, which ranged from fast-food containers, napkins, plastic bags, and, yes, tons of cigarette butts really disturbed and irked me to the point where I'm about to head back down in a little bit with another trash bag and start picking some of it up.

They just don't give a f*ck. I don't think it's about pride about where they live or anything, I'm sure their houses are just as dirty. When you don't care about anything you do dumb things.

You could start an awareness group, and start education campaigns or renting billboards for it. Seems like an interesting undertaking.

True. I love, love, LOVE this city. With that being said I don't care if people label me a "whiner" because I harp so much about the trouble with littering here. My partner is trying to quit smoking, so I can understand how difficult it can be to ebb compulsive behaviors that are detrimental to those around you.

That's a royal shame, too. There's so many reasons to take pride in this place. I never find myself bored, and I still have yet to discover or enjoy MOST of the city's attractions! Like it or not if Pittsburgh wants to succeed in the future it needs to curtail its continued massive population nosedive. It would be much easier to showcase the city in a positive light if we didn't have to try to avert newcomers' attention to the litter.

I don't know. I don't litter. I chose "morons," because it's such an easy thing to not do, it's hard to imagine why anyone would do it. I think it's pretty snarky of you to think to blame it on "yinzers," though. I don't think it's a class issue.
