Any former new yorkers currently residing in da burgh? Planning to make a trip out soon to canvas the area for a possible move. I currently live outside Allentown and job market for IT professionals is pretty bleak in the Lehigh Valley. Not looking to move to a major metro area like Philly. South-west job market for IT isn't looking any better, and the South just isn't that appealing.

There are New Yorkers literally everywhere, and Pittsburgh is no exception. Hopefully, some that frequent this board will reply soon.

Yep, I am from NYC and I know quite a few other transplants from the NYC/Northern NJ area.

It seems like New York is one of the out of state license plates that aren't hard to find when going out on an average so I'd say there are at least a lot of Pittsburghers with NY connections. I'm not sure though if those connections are from Pittsburghers who moved to there or New Yorkers who moved here.

Moving from NYC to Pittsburgh would be like moving to the country. There is very little public transportation here and it is so much smaller. I think the stress level would drop though. Just how cheap it is to live here in comparison would make the monthly nut relaxing.

I was at a concert the other night, and the obnoxious dudes sitting behind me were talking about how provincial Pittsburgh is because they couldn't find anywhere to watch the Knicks game and it was, like, a really really important game. I'm assuming they were from New York.

They might not have been. Basketball is in playoffs too, and it gets totally ignored in Pittsburgh. There wasn't even a Pens game on last night and the Pirates were rained out, so there's no real excuse, although more likely places showing sports probably had on another hockey game. All it takes is a basketball fan, really, to have that attitude. Doesn't necessarily take a New Yorker. A New Yorker should be happy they didn't get to see the Knicks lose again. (Boston leads 3-0)

Pittsburgh doesn't have an NBA team, though, so it's not that surprising. I'd never lived anywhere that had a hockey team before, so I distinctly remember thinking, "huh. People actually care about hockey?" when I moved here.
