Most privately owned rental properties aren't advertised. That's just the way it is in the Pittsburgh area. Some owners prefer to use realtors. Many prefer to stick a sign in the yard. As a result, I've decided to start a Property Rental Thread for members to post the locations of properties they see when they are driving around the Pittsburgh area as they go about their day.

My inspiration?

Today, I drove past an ADORABLE house on Duncan Avenue in Hampton.

It's for sale and rent.

Here's what the property looks like: Allegheny County Assessment (http://www2.county.allegheny.pa.us/RealEstate/Image.asp?CurrBloLot=0828R00054000000&Street=dunca n&MuniCode=914 - broken link)

Here's the location: 2117 Duncan Ave, Allison Park, PA 15101, USA - Google Maps

(btw, the assessment value is amazing at 95k. If someone is looking to buy an affordable house in a great township, this just might be the house.)

While I often can't take the time to get phone numbers, etc. It's easier for me to simply keep the property in mind and then look it up on the internet. That way I can at least direct people to the exact location of whatever properties I see. Then you can go find them yourself.

EXCELLENT idea Hopes! Knowing that the market works this way in Pittsburgh made me nervous about trying to find a place to rent before I got to the burgh. But, I got lucky and somebody found ME on Craig's list.

Great idea! I'll check it daily.

When I moved from Phila to Boston you couldn't find an apartment without it being pulled out from under you if you didn't move immeadiatley. I see in Pittsburgh it's a whole different deal. With many not even using CraigsList this would be a terrific thread and especially for those like myself who can't drive around to find them.

A friend of mine has to move and is looking to find someone to take her apartment in Bloomfield: Spacious 1BR Apartment in Heart of Bloomfield (broken link)

(It's nice and in a good location--I can vouch for that.)

This isn't a rental, but I thought it was worthy of mention for anyone looking for a deal. There is a half constructed house for sale on Little Pine Creek Road. The foundation, framing, outer shell, roof and utilities are all installed. What remains to be done is the exterior siding (or brick), the entire interior, and I think it still needs windows (exterior doors and garage doors are already installed). I'm not sure about the asking price, but it might be a good deal since someone apparently got in over their heads and might be trying to get rid of it cheaply.

OK guys it is official. We have a buyer. I should be heading that way in 3 weeks or so if everything works out. I am looking for a rental...house preferably but will do a townhouse or duplex if it is the bomb. I would love to get a place in Squirrel Hill. We need at least 3 bedrooms and they have to accept pets, my two adorable shih tzus.

It can be non-smoking. I have been quit since Jan 1 (yea me). We will do any of the cool east neighborhoods, especially ones that feed into Allderdice. Keeps your eyes peeled.I have several possibilities I have found on Craigs list but don't have the luxury of riding around to find signs. Also, if anyone knows of a cool place we might rent for a week or two like a coorperate suites place or Bed and Breakfast let me know!!
Yea!!!

Congratulations!

I'll be heading over to the east end to have lunch with my girlfriend this week.

I'll watch for rental signs while I'm there!
