I also feel bad for the mother. So many uncalled for comments on the internet. Obviously what she did was not a smart thing to do, but people have to remember that a mother had to watch her own child get mauled and killed by wild animals. That tragedy would be so awful even if it was her mistake. That 5 minutes will haunt her and her husband for the rest of her life. I think compassion for somebody to go through such a terrible incident is better than judging somebody who is probably in experience the worst a parent could experience.

Compassion for Mom may come later.

But right now I'm sickened to think of the fear and pain this little boy may have endured his last minutes on this earth.

My compassion lies with him today.

it is possible to feel compassion for both, yknow. it's not like you have a finite amount of compassion (i don't think?)

I'm not kidding. I would hop the barrier without hesitation.

Again I'm not judging/bashing the mom/dad who are experiencing the most horrific thing that any parent can be put through, but I just can't imagine why any parent isn't going in after their child.

An accident is nevera an accident in today's world. Someone is to blame. Whether it's the zoo or the parent, I imagine an out of court settlement for some large amount of money. The zoo will want this to go away as quick as possilbe, but I imagine that exhibit will be pretty popular.

I think the four foot fence provided an unobstructed view, but that's just dangerous. Too bad no one had a gun, some hero could have maybe saved the kid.

Perhaps someone was restraining her?

What a tragedy. The mom is going to have to deal with her mistake for the rest of her life.

Maybe the autopsy will say if the toddler actually died from impact of the fall or was killed by the animals. If he died from the fall - or incurred some lethal injury - then what the dogs did, or what certain people would have done, is irrelevant. Either way it seems to have been a quick end.

Are you kidding me? You think someone could been good enough of a shot to kill around a dozen wild dogs in a feeding frenzy and not hit a toddler? All while doing it quickly enough to save the child's life?

My son could take a few of them out while providing cover for someone to get the child to safety.

He is trained to act in situations like this and would not hesitate to do so.
