I am considering going to Pitt Dental School for an implant. I think i could save at least 50% doing so. I am interested in hearing from people who have had treatment there. Please post about your experience, the good, the bad and the ugly!!

I had a bridge done there and it turned out fine.

You have to be patient there to be a successful patient.

You save money, but it will cost you time. Remember the student dentists are learning, and other student dentists will be taking a look at your mouth as well as the professor.

Not personally, but someone else I know very well went there and had a decent experience. If you need to save a few $$$, I think it's alright. I wouldn't hesitate to go based on what I know of it.

Actually it would depend on who is doing the procedure. I had my gums cleaned by three students one was so good I asked him where was he going to set up practice, the second was average and the last one I suggested that he should look for another profession

a former bf had work done and was very happy with there work.

When I was getting my crowns I cut out the dentist and went straight to a lab who does work for other dentists. You save a good 75 percent

Probably back in the 90s, I had a filling re-filled. I had no problems.

Do they do basic cleanings and check-ups at the dental school, too, or just dental "work?" I don't have dental insurance and have been leery of going to pay out-of-pocket for a routine check-up/cleaning.

Dental schools are great for basic procedures like cleanings. I'm not sure I would trust students to do something complicated like a root canal.

As a funny sidenote, I volunteer for Recording for the Blind, which specializes in recording text books for blind and visually impaired college students. A few years ago I was assigned a book for a dentistry student. Now I wish this kid well in his studies but there's no way I'm ever going to go to a blind dentist!

I went with my husband about 5 years ago for a consultation (he needed a surgery and we planned on doing it there). The consultation itself was a nightmare. They sent us to a million different offices on different floors to fill out paper work. Each time we arrived at whatever office we were supposed to be at, there was no one there and the office was closed. It was a disorganized mess. I don't think we were even able to finish the consultation and just ended up leaving. We ended up flying out to see my sister who did the surgery (she is an endodontist).
