This is a good point. Took a little more courage to run against the incumbent.

I'm hoping Ferlo does decide to run as I'm not enthusiastic at all about who has announced so far. He strikes me as a good guy who would make a very solid city manager. I know people who have worked for/with him and only ever had good things to say.

WHY do Peduto and Lamb both have such awful campaign web sites? How can I vote for someone when they don't list any concrete or visionary ideas other than buzz words? Also, why is Peduto slaughtering everyone else in the race? What makes him so much more qualified?

I'm going to write-in Yac at this point for mayor!

Peduto is in favor of economic development throughout the city, and also intends to attack the issue of government waste if he's nominated and elected. He is also promising to be frugal with the taxpayer's dime if he gets in.

I think the fact that people are familiar with him, as he's been around for so many years, as well as his message is going to help him when the Democrats go to the polls this spring.

I need a job. Maybe I'll run.

My idea to solve the fiscal crisis is pretty simple. I hire fashion police to roam downtown and start fining anyone who's an eyesore. I figure I could easily come up with a billion or so in the first year alone.

Over a decade ago, when I belonged to political group at Pitt, and Peduto made a sincere effort in having a dialogue with us. He's one of the very few politicians that I feel actually listens to the commoners instead of living in a walled-off bubble with the party machinery. I'll probably be changing my party affiliation to "Democrat" soon to vote for him in the primary (since the Democratic primary is basically the general election here).

Putting personal bias aside, Peduto has been unofficially campaigning for a better job for years now, and it's paying off.

Is there even a Republican candidate attempting a go at it this time around?

You obviously didn't spend much time exploring Peduto's website.

You can start with "100 Days, 100 Policies to Change Pittsburgh"

Some Republican may put their hat into the race, but the local Republican establishment sees little point in throwing money away on a campaign.

In 1969, the Republicans funded John Tabor pretty well and he lost by 30 points.

In the 1980's Fred Goehringer got beat badly by Mayor Caliguiri but used his own money.
