I am interested in joining a gym in Pittsburgh but I want to stay in the Shadyside/Squirrel Hill/Oakland area. Do any of you know of any reasonably priced gyms that you've heard good things about? I visited Bally's downtown but I didn't like having to go downtown every time I wanted to work out, so I want to stay in the area I mentioned.

Thanks for all replies

Default I sympathize with you

I'm also looking for a place to work out. The Y's have much higher rates than I'm used to, and the local non-Y places seem to be either froo-froo pilates palaces that push tropical smoothies, or no-frills places for boxers ala Rocky Balboa. Maybe our respective neighborhoods will offer plenty of walking opportunities.

Xtreme Fitness in the heart of Shadyside on Walnut street caters to the urban young and middle age crowd. Club One in East Liberty has a large membership of all ages.
