I admit that I have paid tickets that I felt were wrong simply because I didn't have the time or energy to deal with fighting them.

And I have a whole new sympathy for someone who drives for a living.
For what it's worth I often have to illegally park around our restaurants on Oakland Avenue, as all of the legal on-street spaces are occupied (can't wait until Pitt/CMU graduations!), and if I put on my hazard lights and a homemade "Delivering Food. Please Don't Ticket Me!" sign on my dashboard I'm generally good to go. I've only had one parking ticket since I started working for this company. The way I see it is if they're not going to ticket FedEx, UPS, USPS, etc. vehicles, then why target other delivery vehicles? They've created a slippery slope by pardoning some delivery companies and not others.

Once Pitt goes home (any day now), South (of Fifth) Oakland opens up so nicely for parking. Do you go there mainly to pick up food or deliver it?

With the new-fangled plate scanning tech, if the core reason behind parking meters historically is to prevent someone from parking in a prime space all day, then I don't even see why these multi-space meters are even needed. Just drive around in your silly scanning truck, and those folks parked longer than 2 hours in one spot (GPS), or whatever is posted, ticket them.

Still get revenue, much better experience for parkers. If course, it's all about MAX revenue with these crooks.

FWIW, I delivered (large boxes of) magazines to places all over Downtown, Oakland, and the South Side for several years in high school and college, and had the same experience as SCR -- if I put my blinkers on with a sign (and there was a huge stack of boxes in the back of my van), I never had any trouble.

I sometimes think I should keep a massive stack of newspapers in the back of my car and just park with my hazards on, anywhere I go. Probably wouldn't be worth the extra weight and battery replacement fees.
