For future reference - as long as the course remains largely the same as it has been the past several years, you can indeed escape the "inner ring" of the Marathon by taking Bigelow into downtown, then Ross St underneath the Blvd of the Allies and from there you can get at the Parkway on-ramps at the end of Grant St.

We live inside the main "ring" of the marathon route and were pretty much unable to get anywhere most of the day, but sacrificing one day per year so tens of thousands can accomplish something great is surely a very small price to pay.
