CMU had a system to control the traffic lights depending on the traffic. But in Britain, one place had another idea.

I think I'd find it too stressful approaching each intersection. So of like reverting to how its done in India.

I know I'm literally watching a video that shows this working, but I'm still skeptical. People in the US are usually in such a rush, driving dangerously just to be 2 cars ahead of you in line, or speeding up and cutting you off only to get stopped at the same red light anyway. Car commuters in Downtown and Oakland aren't typically very respectful of Pedestrian traffic. Maybe that's because they are likely commuting a longer distance and in more traffic than in a place like Poynton (population 14,000). We have some examples of crosswalks without signals already and I've had mixed results using them. Bigelow across from the Cathedral of Learning, Braddock Ave near Frick Park, Forbes Ave in Squirrel Hill, Liberty near West Penn Hospital. I once was driving with a coworker who got so mad at the people crossing to get to the Cathedral. Literally refusing to stop, inching forward, and griping about how these kids think they own the road (in a marked crosswalk!); I'm afraid too many drivers in US cities have this attitude.
