We have never been to Oglebay but the hour quoted time to get there would be closer to 2 hours since we are north of Pittsburgh up in Baden. Also, my husband works nights, usually 6 out of 7 days of the week. He had to work last night and I was not comfortable taking 2 kids plus one of my daughter's friends that far away.

Hoping to head down there at some point in time. My brother and his girlfriend are coming to town from Kansas for a few days over New Year's, so maybe we will take a trip down there while they are in town.

It depends how long it takes you to get to 79 which is always key of course if you use that route. Once on 79 it's cruise control smooth sailing mostly. There's a lot of ways to get there from PA you can get there from route 2 via route 22 and the new 576 toll road. I have acquaintances in the Aliquippa area so I have used that route to get there before. I know Baden is on the other side of the Ohio so I don't know what the bridge/traffic situation is like these days. There's a new light show inside the zoo that was designed by some reputable person from Cincinnati that I hear is pretty good but I haven't seen it yet.

We buzzed right on through and it was on a Friday night.

I don't know how the rest of Shadyside looks, but the Gwinner-Harter House at the intersection of Fifth and Amberson is wrapped in a big red light-up ribbon.

Does that look as tacky as it sounds?

I drove by last weekend, it really didn't look that tacky at all.

But that's just my opinion on it.

It was actually kind of amazing. And we saw it during the day. I laughed out loud.

The Hartwood Festival of Lights was a charity event made possible by the generosity of sponsors. The main sponsor, UPMC, backed out of funding the project. The county provided the venue but without sponsorship it was too costly to continue.

OP is looking for drive-by Christmas decorations, but the light show at Phipps is simply awesome and the weather's supposed to be mild this week, perfect for an evening walk-through. It's fun for kids, too.
