So I was just out for a walk and apparently a fire at NOLA spread to a few other buildings in Market Square.

I just posted pics on my instagram. I hope the damage was minimum. Perle added a night life element to the square. I really enjoyed the place.

They said the buildings are salvageable but will be closed for some time.

I really hope both Nola and Perle will decide to come back. They each added a different element to Market Sqaure - NOLA with its live music and Perle with their DJs.

This is really bad timing for NOLA, as well. Mardi Gras is just around the corner followed by St. Patrick's day which is always a huge day for the bars in Market Square.

Oh no! When I saw the thread title I really hoped you were speaking figuratively, not literally. I hope they can turn things around soon.

Sounded like water and smoke damage based on the news reports. Not great but certainly sounds better than extensive fire and potentially structural damage.

Holes cut in the roof is a heck of a lot more than water damage. This fire looks like a few hundred thousand to a million dollars at least. If this place reopens it will be 3 to 6 month minimum and that all depends if the insurance company will pay the claim /if there is owner negligence or arson.

This is the risk you take with older buildings..... Those buildings most likely have wood framing pushing 100 years old. Over time the wood dries out and becomes more easily ignited.
