We've never gone to the parade. In my younger years, I did the Market Square thing and have no desire to revisit that.
I know the Pittsburgh parade is pretty big and, from the pics, it looks super crowded. Does anyone have any suggestions for places on the parade route that tend to be less crowded? (I won't tell a soul ).

I don't want to bring kids if the only thing they'll see is the back of someone's knees or top of their head. I'll also take suggestions for alternate kid-friendly activities if you know of any. Go raibh maith agat.

The closer you go towards where it starts down Liberty the thinner the crowds get.

I don't think market square is that rowdy anymore as they've curbed drinking during the parade somewhat in recent years.

I think it's fairly normal during the parade, take UK's advice.

My wife and I might take in the parade, but what goes on after, ROOKIES. Some people just don't know how to act.

Kudos to UK, I never thought about hitting the end route. But yes, the parade DOES get extremely crowded.. like 6-10 rows of people no matter where you are. Some get there at 5am for a nice view. I went my 1st St. Pattys day in Pgh (2012) and that's about all. I had to head downtown last year for something via bus and was totally trapped. The east end busses heading into town stop at Steel Plaza. It took me 20 minutes to finally realize "Oh, I can take the Subway through town" fun times.
