We are looking to leave New Jersey. We hate it. No jobs, tanked economy, no middle class. People are nasty. And with this two faced governor the whole state is turning into a modern day version of Lang's Metropolis. NJ is literally going down to the dogs, we want out. We want a better life with a more promising future. How is the job market in Pittsburgh nowadays?

The job market is pretty limited here. Over the last year, pittsburgh was one of the worst cities for job growth. The region is older in population and not very diverse.

With all of that said, it depends what fields you work in. Banking, medical and education is solid, but beyond that everything else is truly slim pickens. Wages are also below the rest of the nation. Landing a job for 35 to 55k is probably the pinnacle of the region. Jobs like that do exist, but what i have found is that pittsburgh tends to be an insular economy. Outsiders only get hired if the company's future depends on it like google.

Otherwise take a look at whats out there on pittsburgh technology council and the job posting machines. Good luck.

I recommend waiting for more responses to provide balance. Mr. zman hates Pittsburgh and spews propaganda. Mr. pghdude too. The forum also has a few Pittsburgh hating trolls who come in reincarnated identities.

Some industries are great. Others aren't so good. Give us some more information on what you're looking for?

Its decent. Not phenomenal or terrible. My thoughts for the lower job growth here is due to only a small population growth. Growth is happening here but not exploding like southern And western cities.

The job market here is pretty good depending on what field you're looking for. However, I'm afraid the lack of middle class is a nationwide problem and you can definitely see it here in Pittsburgh.

In my opinion people are pretty mean here (most of this forum does not share this view but other places do) but friendlier than Jersey. You certainly do not have anything close to "Iowa Nice" here or anything.

No booms and busts since the crash of the steel industry. Pittsburgh has a stable economy with steady growth.

Yup.... that's his opinion. Because that's a rediculous thng to say.

If you are in healthcare, medical, or engineering, you can find work and move here.

According to U.S. Census estimates, there were 2,031 people who moved from New Jersey to the Pittsburgh metropolitan area between 2007 and 2011, and it was one of 12 states to send 1,000 or more people to Pittsburgh in that period of time, so don't be discouraged. The economy in Pittsburgh isn't nearly as insular as some would suggest.
